Members of our team were commissioned by rising immersive artist Georgia Tucker to create a VR world and immersive audio design to bring to life a “mixed reality resort” installation at the W Hotel London, that responds to our desire for escapism during the pandemic.
Advena is designed to be an experience that highlights the excessive nature of current lifestyles and our craving for more. Through Advena, the artist explores the ecological and social impact of tourism and resort culture.
The installation was shown at the W Hotel in London in 2021 in an immersive suite available to guests.
We supported the artist by designing and creating both the virtual scene and its accompanying high quality spatial audio for the fully interactive environment.
Using 3Ds Max, we were able to design the environment and developed this further in Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) where the final visual, interactive and spatial audio elements were added.
Trigger volumes were added to the scene allowing the visual appearance and audio to reactively change depending on the player’s location in the experience.
To complement the visuals created in Unreal Engine, the audio middleware “WWise” by Audiokinetic was used to develop the soundscape and control how the audio behaved in the VR environment from attenuation to head tracking to reverb volumes, creating a sense of realism.
The soundtrack ‘Bobby Hex – ADVENA’ is available on all major digital streaming platforms.
